Engelse software industrie voorstander graduated response

De Engelse software industrie, vertegenwoordigd door de UK Federation Against Software Theft (UK FAST) is een voorstander van graduated response, een systeem waarbij software piraten na herhaaldelijke waarschuwingen afgesloten kunnen worden van het internet. Graduated response wordt in landen als Frankrijk en het Verenigd Koninkrijk momenteel besproken.

James Craig, jurist bij FAST, is een voorstander van het systeem, maar voegt er aan toe dat het wel accuraat moet zijn:

“This is definitely something the UK can look at, albeit with tightly-defined definitions. At FAST IiS we favour a three strikes and you’re out policy. This allows a gradual build up of pressure on copyright infringers that ranges from notification of wrongdoing, possible reduction in bandwidth for a second offence, and termination of connection for persistent content thieves.”

Hij voegt hier aan toe dat consumenten en de content industrie beide niet gebaat zijn bij een systeem van graduated response dat een te hoge fout marge heeft.

“These issues need to be taken into consideration before anyone is sanctioned, as unfounded accusations do not benefit anyone in the consumer or copyright community. Here in the UK a coherent strategy that works for all copyright holders who suffer digital theft would benefit the entire country,”
