The Dutch National Museum, the famous Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, has made a start with their online project called ‘Rijksstudio’, roughly translated as ‘National Studio’.  The project has made 125.000 artistic works available to the public by exhibiting them online.

The project does not only allow users to admire the works presented there, it also gives them the option to buy the works in different forms, for example as a printed poster. In addition, users can download images of the works for free, or mix and match several images to design their own work of art. Additionally, users can assemble their own collections by choosing their favorite works. Their preferences will be saved as a personal studio and can be shared, allowing others to see the personal collections of the user.

The Dutch National Museum is not the first to introduce a platform to exhibit museum collections online; the Google Art Project has similar functionalities, and even includes 39 works of the Dutch National Museum.
