Today, the Dutch Secretary of Security and Justice and the Minister of Economic Affairs have confirmed to Parliament that the Dutch Cabinet will not sign the Anti Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA). This official statement by Mr. Teeven (Justice) and Mr. Verhagen (Economy)  finally brings clarity on the position of the current Dutch government towards the controversial anti-piracy agreement.

Previously, the Dutch Cabinet had defended ACTA, while the Parliament of the Netherlands had expressed their concern about accepting the treaty. Now the government explained they will not join the agreement until it is absolutely clear whether ACTA is compatible with international human rights law. Currently, a review of the agreement is pending before the European Court of Justice, however, a final judgement in this case is not expected before the end of 2013.
