Pictoright signs deal on reuse of images with clipping companies

Pictoright, the Dutch author’s rights organisation for visual artists, reached an agreement with several Dutch companies that produce secondary publications, such as clippings or collage newsletters. Until now, no clear agreements existed on the reuse of published images. This meant that photographers or other artists were not compensated for the reuse of their work in publications that contain clippings from several other publications. The current deal was negotiated by Pictoright and the companies Antal Clipping, Euroclip and Knipsel Info Service.

With this agreement the ‘clipping companies’ have the permission of the copyright owners to reuse their published images, in return for a reasonable compensation. Pictoright will collect and distribute these royalties under the copyright owners. The purpose of the agreement is to guarantee a fair compensation for the photographers and other professional visual artists of the copyright protected images.

There already existed agreements about a fair compensation on the reuse of copyright protected articles in clipping newsletters. This new agreement provides an additional set of guidelines as to a fair compensation for the reuse of the images, which are published next to the articles in the clipping newsletters. The clipping companies involved state they are happy that all copyright aspects of clipping services are now covered.
