'A radio model for internet is naive'

Author: Martine Wubben - 26-01-2012

Earlier this week Bart Schermer reacted on Dutch MP Kees Verhoeven (D66, Democratic Party) and Erwin Angad Gaur's (Home Copy Foundation) plans to impose both a radio model and a home copy levy on internet use.

According to Verhoeven and Angad Gaur, these measures are more advantageous than a download ban, as proposed by Dutch State Secretary of Justice Teeven in the ongoing debate on the reform of the Copyright Act in the Netherlands (more here and here).

Schermer argues that a radio model and copy levy system on the internet are by no means a better solutions and would discourage innovation in the entertainment industry even further.

Read Bart Schermer's article (Dutch) in the NRC Next of January 23, 2012 or an earlier opinion (English) on why introducing a download levy is a really bad idea.
