No illegal downloads by the Dutch Parliament
The Dutch newsblog Nu.nl withdraws its statement that illegal downloads of copyright protected content were carried out from within the Dutch Parliament. The Dutch Parliament started their own investigation and discovered that although the IP-address that were used are registered to the Parliament, they have not been used by the Parliament for years.
Nu.nl discovered the illegal downloads via YouHaveDownloaded.com (YHD). YHD suggested that IP-addresses belonging to the Dutch Parliament were associated with illegal downloads, such as books, movies and pornographic and explicit videos. The announcement came at a sensitive time because a possible ‘download ban’ is currently fiercely debated in Dutch Parliament. The ‘news’ even became one of the most discussed subjects on the internet and on Twitter.
The ISP Surfnet confirmed the Dutch Parliament’s statement and explained that it had neglected to change the ascription of the IP-adresses.
