Construction industry is largest sector to use illegal software worldwide
According to the Business Software Alliance (BSA), almost one out of five (20%) construction companies used illegal software in 2011. With one out of five companies, the construction industry is the largest sector to use illegal software worldwide. Therefore, the use of illegal software is becoming a real problem.
BSA’ research results show that also design companies (13%) and transport & logistic companies (12%) frequently use illegal software. Software is considered illegal when it is copied or distributed without consent from the copyright holder. BSA is an organization that protects the interests of copyright holders in the software industry. In addition, BSA takes legal action against offenders on behalf of software companies. The organization obtains its data by searching through computers and, if necessary, confiscate the computers.
According to BSA, the future of internet and software innovation is largely shaped by the way businesses and policymakers around the world deal with several important issues, such as encouraging innovation through a high degree of protection of intellectual property.
