Does Apple’s Newsstand boost digital subscription rates?
In the fall of 2011 Apple introduced Newsstand, a feature/app which allows for the immediate downloading and convenient storage of digital newspapers and magazines on iOS devices.
The question is to what extent Newsstand strengthens the digital proposition of magazines and newspapers. At AllthingsD an interesting post was published providing a tentative answer. It seems that Newsstand has led to a significant increase in the sale of digital subscriptions for the magazine Popular Science. While sales figures for other magazines and papers are not available, the figures from Popular Science are encouraging.
