Freemium apps are the trend of 2011
According to a study done by the Dutch company Distimo, 2011 is the year of the freemium apps. At least half of the revenue, generate from apps, comes from freemium apps. With a freemium app you can use the basic app for free. However, if you want to use additional features you’ll have to pay for them. Furthermore, the study shows that Apple App Stores generate more revenue than the Android worldwide.
Nonetheless, the number of downloaded iPhone applications has declined. This is probably a result of the introduction of new iPhone or iPad models. It seems that the consumers rather wait until new models are available, before they try out new apps.
