CD Projekt, the developer of the game " The Witcher 2: Assassins Of Kings" demanded € 911.80 per German torrent-user who has downloaded the game online and uploaded it, without obtaining the copyright holders consent.

The German torrent users, who have acquired and shared the game via P2P networks, received a letter from developer CD Projekt. The letter states they have to pay € 911.80 for the allegedly unauthorized use of the copyright protected work. However, if they do not give in and pay, the game maker will start a legal procedure.

The co-founder of CD Projekt, Marcin Iwinski, states 4,5 million copies were shared on BitTorrent. The game did not contain any Digital Management Rights (DRM) technology in order to protect the Intellectual Property (IP) Rights of the game and to prevent copyright infringement online. According to the company, DRM only hurts people who buy the game, not those who download the pirated versions where the DRM has been stripped.
