Website reveals IP addresses of torrentdownloaders as a ‘joke’

On initiative of three creators, the website youhavedownloaded.com is realized. The website claims to reveal the IP addresses of four to six percent of torrent downloads worldwide. Through the webcrawler, the site visitor gets an overview of all downloaded torrents on its IP address and it would even be possible to trace if friends download illegal files.

On the website, the creators explained this is a 'joke'. The main purpose of the site seems to be making people aware of the large proportion of illegal torrent files downloaded worldwide and copyright infringement as a result of that. The creators came up with the idea to develop and maintain a webcrawler for less than $ 300 per month and decided to put it to use as a 'joke' against people who download illegal files. The creators clearly mentioned they had no bad intentions by realizing the website. However, not everyone can appreciate this ‘joke’, according to the comments on the website.
