The Swedish music streaming service Spotify announced to allow extern developers to develop applications that can be used in combination with services of Spotify. By facilitating these apps, Spotify hopes more people will use its service and people will stream more music.

Developers can now develop an app that will appear in Spotify apps, through a package supplied by Spotify, Currently, Spotify’s apps store already contains apps such as those of The Guardian and Rolling Stone. With new applications being developed, lyrics and reviews could be provided.

This spring, Spotify also started a partnership with social media platform Facebook to promote its service. The collaboration proved to be a great success for Spotify. The company announced that in the past two months seven million new users logged on. Time will tell whether working with developers to create new applications will also be a great success.
