Buma/Stemra and IMPALA launch one-stop shop for licenses

Author: Future of Copyright - 29-11-2011

Collecting society Buma/Stemra signed an agreement with IMPALA, interest group for independents (independent music producers, musicians), to start the first European one-stop shop for licenses to record copyright protected work. This new structure creates the opportunity to grant just one license through all of Europe. The deal between Buma/Stemra and IMPALA applies to both audio carriers and music DVD productions.

Currently, independents have contracts with different conditions in various European countries. Through the alliance, more transparency is created for copyright holders because licenses are combined. Also, the right holders do not have to go to all the European collecting societies for licensing. Besides the possibility to grant a license in Europe, Buma/Stemra offers the independents an agreement with BIEM, an international collecting organization of which Buma/Stemra is a member.
