U.S. government seizes 131 websites with counterfeit products
Previously, we wrote about the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that seized domain names of illegal file sharing sites and websites with counterfeit products. Over the last months, these authorities were involved a major project called "Operation in our Sites". This project consists of the seizure of domain names of websites distributing or selling counterfeit products or copyright protected content.
Currently, law enforcement agencies seem to have an increased focus on websites dealing with fake products, instead of targeting illegal file sharing sites. Over the last days, 131 domain names of websites offering counterfeit products were seized. With today’s "Cyber Monday" being the busiest online shopping day in the United States, these illegal web shops are going to miss out on their most valuable day.
