Spotify loses artists as a result of low fees
Spotify received a lot of criticism due to the low fees for artists that make their music available to the streaming service in England. The debate surrounding the use of Spotify erupted after the British musician Jon Hopkins said to earn only ten pounds for a hundred thousand streams.
Earlier, music labels like Century Media and Projekt Records decided to no longer offer their repertoire on Spotify. In addition, British artists such as Adele, Coldplay and Tom Waits have supposedly stoped making their newest albums available on Spotify, because the fees are so low that it’s not profitable.
It seems like artists feel Spotify is not paying them enough and it is therefore not profitable for artists to offer their music to the audience on Spotify. If Spotify will not increase the stream fees, it is quite possible that many artists will withdraw their repertoire from the music streaming service.
