Top-level domain.xxx registered mostly by schools

This year the new generic top-level domain .xxx for websites was opened by internet domain name registry ICM. The extension was intended for primarily adult websites and the porn industry, but schools and universities seem make the most use of the registration of .xxx domain names.

Especially American schools and universities are committed to cover abuse of their trademark and trade names. These schools fear for damages to their (well known) trademark, name and reputation and do not want others to hijack their trade names for erotic websites. That's why they buy domain names with .xxx which include their trademark and/or trade names for $200.
