EU and Taiwan discuss collaboration on copyright protection
Last week, the European Union and the Taiwanese government discussed intellectual property rights issues and more specifically the protection of copyright on the internet. The conference focused on creating a legal framework for the online enforcement of copyright and building a best practices based on recent experiences in Taiwan.
The European Economic and Trade Office (EETO) is one of the conference’s organizers. According to Frederic Laplanche, head of EETO, the European and the Taiwanese economy are both based on knowledge and protection of innovation and creation. Both economies are at the same level of development, said Laplanche. Therefore, Laplanche thinks it is wise for both governments to formulate similar policies to respond quickly to the fast-changing behaviour of internet users.
The EU and Taiwan are working together in the field of intellectual property for several years now. In my opinion, their cooperation is a good development in the pursuit of a uniform enforcement of online copyright protection.
