Dutch provider Ziggo to launch own streaming music service
After we reported KPN is working with the streaming music service Spotify last week, now Dutch provider Ziggo announced its plans to start its own streaming music service. Ziggo is planning to launch the service at the beginning of 2012. Further details of the service are unclear at the moment.
Provider KPN already started to combine a streaming music service to its business activities. Therefore it is not so surprising other providers will follow KPN’s move. However, Ziggo chooses a different path than KPN. In stead of closing a deal with an existing streaming music service such as Spotify , the company starts its own service. Ziggo already has its own video-on-demand service and offers a wide selection of films and series to customers with digital subscriptions for digital television. Besides this range of products, an own streaming music service fits right in.
We will have to wait and see whether or not other providers will also take a step towards launching streaming music services and will sign an agreement with existing streaming services like KPN or start their own service like Ziggo.
