Dutch Telco KPN and online streaming service Spotify, made an agreement last Monday. Now, KPN customers with certain subscriptions receive a Spotify Premium subscription for free. Spotify is offered to subscribers with a KPN all-in-one Extra and Premium subscription or a Fiberglass-subscription Silver or Gold.

Normally, the Spotify Premium subscription costs about ten euro’s per month. In this case, KPN subscribers will get Spotify Premium for free when they have certain KPN subscriptions which cost around sixty euro’s per month.

Unlike the free version of Spotify, the Spotify Premium subscription makes it possible for users to get access to Spotify on their smart phone trough an application. Also current KPN customers can use this Spotify subscription; they only have to notice KPN that they want to use Spotify.

Last Monday, Renske Algra, a spokeswoman of KPN announced KPN will not offer Spotify to any other KPN subscribers than the specific subscriptions (such as KPN all-in-one and Fiberglass-subscriptions). Furthermore, other internet service providers such as XS4ALL will not yet offer the Spotify subscription. KPN first wants to see whether or not the customers will like this concept. KPN is the first Dutch provider to close such a deal with an online streaming music service.

It will be interesting to see if the agreement between KPN and Spotify inspires other providers to work with online streaming services. Nonetheless, it’s clear online steaming service Spotify is doing a great job in exposing and expanding its service.
