MC Hammer: ‘Stop……search engine time!’
The rapper MC Hammer, who we all know from the song 'U can’t touch this’, announced the launch of his own online search engine last week at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco. The search engine called WireDoo, is designed to give related results of a keyword.
MC Hammer said he and his friends came up with the idea of developing a search engine. He stressed it is not the intention of WireDoo to copy existing search engines such as Yahoo! and Google. According to MC Hammer, the reason for developing a new search engine is because he thinks results can be combined better.
WireDoo has a number of functions aimed at finding additional search results around a keyword. For example, when entering the search term 90210 (best known zip code of Beverly Hills), WireDoo does not give the famous TV serie from the nineties as a result, but gives results on schools, houses and crimes in the neighbourhood. MC Hammer demostrates this at the Summit.
It is unclear when the search engine WireDoo will be available online. Furthermore, it is questionable whether WireDoo will be as successful as the large search engines such as Google and Yahoo!
