Belgian choreographer demands ban on music video Beyoncé
The popular American singer Beyoncé has caused copyright controversy! The Flemish choreographer Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker claims she created a copyright protected dance that Beyoncé used in her video clip, without her consent. Beyoncé used a dance in her video that was actually developed by her. De Keersmaeker did not give permission to Beyoncé to use her choreography.
Choreographic works can be protected under copyright law, provided they are original and based on certain creative choices of the maker. In case someone reuses this work without consent of the maker (choreographer) or the performing artist, copyrights and/or related rights can be infringed.
In this case, according to de Keersmaeker, Beyoncé copied her ballet Rosas Rosas of 1984 in her new video clip Countdown. Now the choreographer demands a global prohibition on the distribution of the new video clip of Beyoncé.
Beyoncé says that she was only inspired by the ballet. Apparently this worked out well for her, as already 2 million people viewed her video clip on the internet.
See for yourself!
