Dutch state secretary Teeven reacts on policy priority brief Copyright 20©20
Today Fred Teeven, State Secretary for Security and Justice, reacted to policy priority brief Copyright 20©20 (speerpuntenbrief Auteursrecht 20©20). With this brief Teeven wants inform Parliament on his views on the developments in copyright and neighbouring rights and the report of the parliamentary working group on copyright led by Arda Gerkens. Teeven also points out the types of initiatives he wishes to undertake in regard of copyright policy and legislation during the current administration.
In summary, the four priorities of Teeven's policy for this government:
- Increasing confidence in copyright and copyright organizations.
- Strengthening the contractual position of authors and performers compared to intermediairies through a author's contract law bill.
- The promotion and protection of new business models on the internet to combat infringing websites through a bill and facilitating a reconsideration of the private copying exception.
- Supporting European plans for digitization projects and the preservation of cultural heritage and to facilitate the reduction of territorial limits of copyright licenses. Also to aim for a fair use exception in the Copyright Directive.
