British ISPs take action against illegal file sharing sites
British ISPs agreed to limit access to websites with infringing content, according to The Register. The agreement was reached in response to the Newzbin2 ruling in July.
The Newzbin2 ruling concluded that ISPs could be held responsible if they do not limit access to websites with infringing content. It is a prerequisite that there should be no doubt as to the unlawfulness of the website concerned.
According to reliable sources of The Register, several major UK ISPs discussed their policy for limiting access to websites with infringing content this week. ISPs agreed to block access to websites with infringing content. The process and structure of the policy still needs approval of the ISPs and the creative sector.
Copyright holders responded quite positively.
