Dutch video-on-demand-service will be launched on TV
Veamer, SBS’s online video-on-demand service, also wants to be available on TV. The plan is to make Veamer available on television via connected TV this year. The last two years, Veamer grew into the largest online VOD-service of the Netherlands.
Currently 4500 titles are available in Veamer’s database and especially the Harry Potter movies are very popular. Veamer allows you to rent or purchase movies and TV series. When users rent a movie they have the ability to stream the movie from the site of Veamer. After the payment they have 24 hours to watch the movie. When users purchase a movie they are allowed to download the movie on their computer. The rights to the title are thereby transferred to the buyer and the movie can be watched as often as desired.
Wether Veamer will apply the same pricing for movies on tv, as they do on their online VOD-service is unclear. On the television, Veamer will be up against other VOD services, such as UPC and Ziggo. Whether the company can handle this competition is questionable. Despite the competition, the company aspires to be available everywhere in the Netherlands.
