Digitization by the National Library of the Netherlands continues
The National Library of the Netherlands at The Hague continues with the digitization of old works. Dutch books, magazines and newspapers released since 1470, are going online. By now 500 old books are online. The books are about the Netherlands in the 16th century.
The National Library already placed old newspapers from the collection online. The newspapers go back to 1618. Now they're starting to place old books online. The books date from 1470 to 1700.
Last year the National Library announced that they whish to make Dutch works public and accessible to everyone. Now the works can also be found online, but you’ll have to source all kinds of websites. By placing the information together at one website, the works will be easier to scan and compare. The service is free of charge.
The plan is to have 10% of the entire collection of the National Library available online by 2013. The online library will not only contain books, magazines and newspapers, but also of websites and scientific articles. For work that was still copyrighted, the National Library made deals with the copyrightholders.
