In the U.S., a granny of 70 years is sued for downloading and sharing porn through BitTorrent. She has been offered a settlement of 3,400 dollar. The grandmother however refuses pay the fine ("I do not even know what BitTorrent is") and thereby risks a court hearing and one fine of 150,000 dollar. 

The grandmother claims that she didn’t download any porno movies and has no idea what BitTorrent is. She has no money to hire a lawyer though and will likely do her own defence. She has her strategy already lined up:

"If Sony can get hacked, if the Pentagon can get hacked, my goodness, what chance does an individual have?"

A reporter had asked the widow if she had protected her wireless internet connection protected with a password. She did not remember to do so, but did remembered that a number of young men are living next to her...

The lawyer for plaintiff Hard Drive Productions stated in an interview that this defence is unsatisfactory:

"anyone who fails to secure their Wi-Fi is responsible for the subsequent crimes or tragedies as a parent who leaves a loaded gun within-reach of a 3-year old."
