Forty percent of mobile internet traffic is video streaming
According to American researchers at Alliot Communications, about forty percent of the mobile internet data traffic currently consists of video streaming.
The Alliot Mobile Trends Report, a global survey, also shows the remarkable shift from phone calls and SMS messages to VoIP and web-based messaging on smartphones, which directly impacts the income of the (mobile) telecom providers.
Allot Communications has based their findings partly on the monitoring of data traffic on mobile networks with a total of 210 million consumers. It is evident that the most popular mobile internet applications are currently watching video (via for example YouTube), VoIP services and online messaging (for example through What's App).
