The American Motion Picture Association, better known as the MPAA, supports the plans of the Dutch Secretary Fred Teeven (Security and Justice), according to the Dutch website Nu.nl. The Dutch ministry has met with the president of the MPAA, CJ Dodd.

In April this year, Teeven declared his views and goals regarding the proposed copyright policy. Teeven suggested a ban downloading from illegal sources. Currently, downloading from illegal sources still is permitted in the Netherlands (although the media sometimes states the opposite). Teeven would like to focus on large-scale downloaders and suppliers of (copyright protect) content and sites that provide access to infringing content. He would not so much want to focus on small and individual downloaders. In addition, Teeven wishes that right holders would have enough possibilities and opportunities to tackle illegal supply, even if the illegal parties are located outside the Netherlands.

Both Dodd and Teeven hope that the plans are also carried out elsewhere in Europe. Furthermore, both parties agree that copyright the digital domain can only be protected effectively when consumers have access to attractive and easy to use legal alternatives.
