Mexico against controversial ACTA

The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, also known as ACTA, is back in the picture. This time not in Europe, as we previously reported, but in Mexico.

The scope of ACTA includes fighting against counterfeit products such as clothing and medicine and illegal copying of software, games and music. The goal is to set up international standards to protect intellectual property rights.

The Mexican Senate has recommended to vote against ACTA. What the reason is thereof is not clear yet. Possible criticism might originate from ISPs because they fear that they must play a more active role in (IP) enforcement and cooperate with the (supervisory) authorities. Another reason could be that ACTA is not transparent and democratically established. You can read some possible reasons for voting against ACTA here and here. And Spanish readers can read the Spanish document of the Mexican Senate here

Trany

just read the Spanish version, and they did it for 3 reasons.
1- it goes against Mexico's constitution and will silence the free speech of the people
2- they took note of the negative reaction of the people
3-They did a deep study of the ACTA and the methods to work it out against piracy......finding it impossible, useless and only a waste of effort, that the last thing will do is stop piracy.
