Snipper replaces YouTube by revolutionary video-App
Snipper has launched a service that enables users to send videos called "Snippets" from one mobile phone user to another through certain channels. These short video clips can also be shared through Facebook and Twitter.
It is similar to Twitter, as you can "follow and be followed”, but Twitter only exchanges text and no videos (only the links thereof). How does it work? There are private channels and public channels. By using private channels you can share videos of your daughter or son with your family. You can follow artists by using public channels.
The difference between YouTube and Snipper is that the videos are sent directly to your inbox of your App and that they do not have to be played from the internet. Internet connection is not even necessary to watch the videos.
For artists this could be a great way to promote their music. The App can be used as a marketing tool, just like Twitter and Facebook. For instance, the artist could sing a part of a new song in his video.
Currently, you can download the App for free from your smart phone. But how does Snipper generate revenue? Apparently that is of later concern according to Sander Andreae of Serramedia, the developer of Snipper. Ads and m-commerce (mobile commerce) could possibly generate revenue. "We are certainly not going to work with pre-roll advertising," says Andreae, "then you’ll worsen the user experience. Possibly we are going to make use of Premium channels or forms of m-commerce. Products could be offered when you watch a video. We have not yet made a decision. "
