Lady Gaga starts new network site: Backplane
Lady Gaga and her manager Troy Carter invented a new social network site called Backplane. Gaga noticed that the connection with music and social networks had not been made yet and she and her manager decided to start a company that connects all social media. The site allows fans of an artist or athlete to follow them and the artists and fans can bring their messages together. The site seems somewhat similar to iTunes Ping, a social network with respect to music, where you can follow your favorite artists. Gaga noticed however that Ping hardly makes a link with existing social networks (such as Facebook.)
It’s obvious that Lady Gaga is actively responding to today/s digital society. Although we live in a time of (illegally) downloading and artists consequently often (therefore) miss income, she sells CDs like no other and many people go to her (expensive) shows. She knows how to gather a huge amount on the Internet. Lady Gaga has 36 million Facebook friends. On Twitter last month she passed the limit of 10 million followers, more than President Barack Obama. No wonder why she wants to start this new social network site.
