Google keeps on introducing new media services
Google is on a roll. The Mountainview-based tech giant’s daughter YouTube recently closed deals with movie studios to expand their Video on Demand services. And now, the Android Market, Google announced, will offer a similar menu, as well as a cloud-based music streaming service. News of the music service leaked a few days ago. Click here to read more. Both services are available as of now, but only (and this is a recurring theme that saddens us deeply) in the United States.
Google will sell apps that offer streaming access a movie, for 1,99 dollar. The movies can be watched once during a one-month period. But once the start button is pushed, you need to finish the flick within 24 hours. So far, Google has not commented on the size of the library and the availability of recent movies.
The music service allows users to store their local libraries online so they can be streamed to all kinds of devices. For now it will be a ‘passive locker’: Google so far hasn’t struck the necessary deals with the music studios to create a Spotify-like service. Users can upload 20.000 tracks to their Google-locker.
Both announcements were made during Google’s I/O conference.
