World Intellectual Property Day

Today, April 26 is the annual World Intellectual Property Day, organised by the World Intellectual Property Organsation (WIPO)
The event was established by WIPO in 2000 to "raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life" and "to celebrate creativity, and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of societies across the globe". April 26 was chosen as this was the date on which the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization entered into force in 1970.
This year’s World Intellectual Property Day celebrates the role of design in the marketplace, in society and in shaping the innovations of the future. WIPO Secretary General Frances Gurry issued a statement on today’s celebration on WIPO’s website.
