The app-virus keeps on spreading. Apps for music, for navigation, for news, for games, for the weather, for a movie, for romance, for wine and cheese for… No single industry remains untouched.

On presenting their quarterly results, KPN, the largest mobile network operator in the Netherlands showed that apps took a bite of 10% from the texting turnover. Furthermore, customers tend to exceed their monthly quota in their plan less often. The arrival of new communication media, such as the Facebook and Hyves apps, are held responsible.

The trade in data plans increases, dispite the decline in texting. KPN announced to aim to follow this trend by taking data as starting point in new subscription plans. What these new plans will look like is still unknown. In a press conference, CEO Eelco Blok did announce not to throttle or block competing services.
