Since p2p application LimeWire was court ordered to cease its services in October last year, the number of illegal music downloaders using p2p in America has decreased by 43% percent in the last quarter of 2010 in comparison to previous year. This is one of the principal findings of renowned market research group NPD in an extensive survey of 5,549 Americans.

The report also finds that some LimeWire users have moved to other p2p applications. FrostWire would have benefited the most of LimeWire’s shutdown with an increase in visitor numbers between 10 and 21 percent.

Overall, the number of U.S. illegal music downloaders would have declined from 16 to 9 percent in one year. That would mean that nearly half of American illegal music downloaders have stopped doing this.
