Hotfile takes steps against infringing uploaders
Hotfile, a US file hosting service, has started to put more effort into screening uploaded files for infringing content. This increasingly strict check seems connected to the litigation that the MPAA started earlier against this service.
Torrentfreak reports, after conversing with uploaders, that Hotfile has commenced, on a substantial scale, to delete accounts where infringing content was hosted. In most cases, it involved premium accounts that were active for quite some time, up to two years. Most accounts contained movies and TV series and account holders were paid on a weekly basis.
The MPAA targeted Hotfile as its business model would incite uploading large, popular files like movies. Uploaders are financially rewarded for every 1000 downloads. The larger the files, the higher the reward.
