Warner Home Entertainment has launched ‘App Editions’ today. This allows consumers to view special editions of movies and TV shows on their iPhone, iPod touch, or the iPad.

The first films that appear as App Editions are ‘Inception’ and ‘The Dark Knight’. They are now on sale in the iTunes App Store for €7,99  and €9,99 respectively. (...)

App Editions will be introduced in more than thirty countries, including some countries where it was impossible to watch movies through iTunes so far, such as the Netherlands and Belgium. Warner reports that they will publish an extensive range of App Editions this year, with a variety of new releases and must-have-classics.

Warner does more than merely translate their movies into applications for mobile devices. These applications offer many new options for the mobile user. On the apps there is plenty of music and footage that was previously unreleased. The ‘Inception’ application allows users to not only download or stream the movie, they also get bonus material including a glance behind the scenes on how the vision of director Christopher Nolan has been translated to the screen.

‘The Dark Knight: App Edition’ allows consumers a permanent copy of the movie and users can download or stream the movie on their smartphone. This application contains no less than three hours of bonus clips and a gallery of photos and movie trailers. There is also an interactive movie trivia quiz, a collection of one-liners that you can download and it is possible to post updates on Twitter and Facebook.
