For every 100 paperbacks, Amazon sells 115 ebooks
Amazon sells 15% more ebooks than it does paperbacks. Furthermore, Kindles sold outnumber hardbacks 3 to 1, the online media store recently announced with the quarterly presentation of its results. The firm had expected to reach this point to quarters later.
Amazon was not forthcoming with details about the cultural shift towards digital readership, but did add that it had sold “millions” of third generation Kindles. Still, not only digital readership is growing. Paperback sales increased as well.
Although traditionally an online bookstore, reading is no longer the core category for Amazon. Of the nearly 13 billion dollar turnover, 5,2 billion came from the categories media, books, cds and dvds. The category electronics & other general merchandise contributed 7,4 billion dollar to total turnover.
