YouTube’s innovative mobile services generate 200 million pageviews a day
YouTube reported that the use of their services via mobile devices has tripled during 2010, to 200 million views a day. Although YouTube already enjoys huge market shares, they remain remarkably innovative in both their product design and the development of new business models.
Earlier this week, YouTube announced the addition of Vevo to its YouTube app for Android, which is expected to provide yet another boost in mobile viewers. Vevo - a music video website, which is a joint venture between Sony, Universal and EMI - attracts a monthly audience of 50 million unique visitors in the US.
In addition, the YouTube app will now also include pre-roll ads before videos. Short commercials before the start of a video will be difficult to avoid for the user. "This not only expands distribution opportunities for partners like Vevo, but also opens up more revenue to partners distributing their content to mobile," according to Andrey Doronichev, YouTube's mobile product manager. "Although we've tested ads on mobile over the years, this is our largest step in developing the mobile business to date."
