Torrentfreak reviews the year in torrent searches: nearly exclusively movies and TV-series in top 20

Movies were the most sought after content on torrent sites. That emerges from a review by Torrentfreak of the 100 most used queries on BitTorrent in 2010. The titles in the top 20 (the list also contains category queries like xxx, French, 2010 and porn), nearly all refer to movies and TV-series. The only exception is Windows 7, on number 20. Most popular title search was Inception, followed by Iron Man 2 and Avatar.

Earlier this week, the same site announced Avatar to be the most downloaded movie of 2010 on BitTorrent, with more than 16,5 million downloads. Inception and Iron Man 2 entered that list on respectively the third and fifth place with just under ten million downloads.

As torrent traffic is not centrally managed, but instead involves hundreds of sites and trackers, it is hard to paint a complete picture. The author uses data on used queries provided by Kickasstorrents, one of the ten most used torrent portals worldwide. The number of downloads came from their own research.
