Usenet portal FTD releases script that transforms Brein's website into torrent site

Usenet portal FTD recently added a scritp to the site of anti-piracy organisation Brein that transformed the site into a list of torrents. This script has now been released tso that anyone can install it as a browser app for Firefox.

The script is key in the case that is now being held between FTD and Brein. On order of the court, FTD removed the search function from their site. so that users could no longer search for content through the site of FTD. Subsequently, a script was released that  once again added the function to FTD's site so that users could install it themselves through their web browser. In that way, they could still use FTD’s site to easily search for nzb-files. Nzb files are small files that contain info on the location of the (protected) content that one is looking for.

This didn’t go down well with Brein. The anti-piracy organisation still feels that FTD is responsible for the infringing behaviour of its users.

By transforming Brein’s site, FTD aims to demonstrate how easy it is for third parties to add elements to a site, without knowledge or consent of the owners of the site. In other words: that it really really really isn’t FTD’s fault that people use their site to search for copyrighted media.
