Super Street Fighter IV not released on PC because of piracy

The hit game Super Street Fighter IV will not be released on PC, revealed the games’ producer Yoshinori Ono. He cited piracy as the prime cause for this decision. Super Street Fighter IV is an enhanced version of last year’s hit game Street Fighters IV (SFIV), with upgrades like more characters and stages.

Ono says that while SFIV definitely did well in sales, it also was “number one in piracy”. Capcom, the games’ producing company, feared that the SFIV IP might be damaged by offering it for “free” on PC.

Capcom might, hinted Ono, consider releasing the Super edition for PC at a later stage, if better protection were to be in place. He revealed that as the game was created on an engine with close ties to DirectX, about 99% of a PC version was already done.

Ono was not all negative on the subject of piracy of the PC version, stating that the PC version did a lot to get SFIV’s name on the street and helped spread awareness.
