According to Norwegian research exactly one third of the Norwegian population has streamed music. Just over half of them (18% of the total population) say they no longer illegally download music because of streaming services.

Those who have streamed music say they feel more up to date with current music (60%), listen to more music (68%) and have discovered new music (72%).

The investigation also revealed that more men than women use music streaming services. 43% of the men have used a music streaming service, compared to 19% of the women. More than a quarter of Norwegian women do not even know what streaming means (against 14% men), the research shows.

Previous research show similar results in America and Great Britain.

The Norwegian research is not completely without bias though. The research was commissioned by Aspiro - Norwegian producer of the WiMP streaming service.
