Russian DVD copy-circuit cleaned out, St. Petersburg was next
For those who thought the market for copied DVDs was dominated by Asian countries: Russia apparently also knows its way around. After the raids at various warehouses of pirated DVDs in Moscow last week, two days ago Russia’s second largest city St. Petersburg had the dubious honour.
In two orchestrated raids on a replication facility and a warehouse in St Petersburg yesterday, in addition to stampers and printers, a further 235,000 pirated DVDs were seized. The St. Petersburg raids raise the amount of confiscated pirated dvd's in Russia in one week to a total of over 3,7 million.
During the raid ‘Toy Story 3’ and ‘The A Team’, both recently released into the cinemas were in the process of being copied.
The owners of the two locations have been arrested, face a criminal case and a penalty of up to 6 years imprisonment.
