IP/WC news: Shakira's official World Cup song infringes on Cameroonian copyright
Shakira's official World Cup song "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" infringes on the copyrights of Cameroonian band Zangalewa.
Cameroon and African World Cup fans directly recognized Shakira's newest hit as a remix of the song Zamina.
Spokesman Ze Bella made a smart move by quickly announcing that Zangalewa was very pleased and honoured that Shakira used their song for the World Cup song, but that the copyright had to be respected with compensation.
Shakira's record label Sony subsequently went to the table for a settlement with Zangalewa. According to some sources, FIFA demanded that Sony cleared the song before it could be used as the official World Cup song.
