Buma/Stemra spares individual web users
Last week, Buma/Stemra published its licencing fees for 2010. In it, the organisation indicated to start charging a fee for embedding music on websites, blogs and social networks. This evoked harsh criticism, both in the virtual as in the physical world.
In order to meet this ubiquitous criticsm, Buma/Stemra has revised its plans. This has been done in concordance with industry platform VOICE. Individual web users no longer are liable to pay for embedding music. Companies and admins of commercial sites can look forward to an invoice payable to Buma/Stemra if they want to embed music in their website. Bloggers and people that have music in their social networking profiles, however, do not need to change that.
