Adult entertainment studios displeased with anti-piracy approach South Korea
A formation of fifty Japanese and American adult movie studios feels discriminated against by South Korea’s public prosecution in the fight against piracy.
Through a lawyer in Seoul, the group recently filed complaints against 65.000 people they suspect of illegally uploading their works for profit. In an earlier, similar action, complaints were filed against 10.000. Only in ten of these cases, the prosecution picked up on the leads and started a case. To the studio’s, this number was disappointing.
When the prosecution in South Korea subsequently took a tough stance on pirates when a domestic action movie was uploaded illegally, the studio’s displeasure increased. They accuse South Korea of maintaining double standards when acting against piracy.
“We believe that [the prosecution] should not be discriminatory in applying copyright laws,” the attorney said. “Illegal copying and distribution run rampant in Korea because it is one of the world’s most wired countries. We decided to take legal action to minimize our past business losses and to protect anticipated future profits.”
