Today the Tokyo District Court has ruled that selling the ‘R4 Revolution for DS’  is a violation of Japanese law and granted an injunction against sales of the device. Most outlets had already halted sales of the R4 pending the outcome of the trial.

The R4 cart is a device which allows consumers to ‘back up’ the games they bought. However, the primary use of the R4 device is pirating games.

The Chinese manufacturer of the R4 cart was sued by Nintendo, Cpacom, Square Enix and some 50 other companies. The companies will continue to pursue other manufacturers of similar devices.
