iPhone apps set to redefine music promotion
A few years back Apple’s iTunes Music Store revolutionized music distribution by providing the first real one-stop shoppring experience for digital music. Now Apple is set to do the same for music promotion.
Third Party developer Kyte has struck deals with Sony and the Universal Music Group to create applications that enable fans to subscribe to their favorite artists through their iPhone. These applications don’t give fans full tracks, rather they keep fans updated with new information through exclusive videos, a chat room, and a Twitter-style news feed.
The music industry can draw fans closer to the artists through their new applications. Moreover, the applications channel fans to the iTunes music store. The Apple App store already contains Kyte apps for Soulja Boy Tell \'Em, Keri Hilson, The Pussycat Dolls, The All American Rejects and Lady Gaga.
