Microsoft and Netflix have released the first figures for the Xbox LIVE download service from Netflix.  The companies say that one million Xbox LIVE Gold members have watched 1.5 billion minutes of movies and TV series using the console. These figures are very impressive considering the fact that the service launched a mere three months ago.

For a monthly fee of US$9 (on top of a US$50 year long Xbox Live Gold membership) consumers get unlimited access to approximately 12,000 TV and movie titles, most of which are library material.

Netflix’s subscription-based download movie service is the only one of its kind. The success of the service affirms that consumers are indeed willing to pay for digital content. With its fair pricing, easy access through Xbox Live, and big catalogue, Netflix is a very good alternative for piracy.

The Netflix application is currently only available in the United States.
